My practice philosophy is to work with you to tailor a wellness and medical program to try to get your symptoms and your health under control. I can see you as an urgent care patient or as a family practice patient.
First, as an urgent care patient, these visits are tailored to be a simple visit, one or two complaints, like a cold, sinus issue, urinary tract infection, medication refill, cough, or flu like illness. I can order X-rays and send them to a local radiology facility close to your residence. I can order labs, but these will not be back the same day. It may take one to several days to get lab results returned back to me for review. If my Telehealth evaluation and initial treatments do not resolve or significantly improve your symptoms in a few days, I will refer you to a local urgent care or your primary care provider for a hands on evaluation. If I find your complaint to be emergent, I will refer you to the emergency department for appropriate evaluation. Part of my contract with you, as a patient, is to understand you will still require a primary care provider to manage your every day complaints like diabetes, hypertension, and an annual physical exam. Some medical issues are best handled by a local primary care provider or specialist that are able to physically evaluate you, listen to your lungs, listen to your heart, evaluate your abdomen, in other words, lay hands on you for a complete evaluation. I have been a physician assistant for twenty years, and a paramedic for seven years prior to becoming a PA, so when I believe you need to be evaluated by a specialist or a local provider, please trust my medical opinion.
Second, I can also see you for any other family practice issue including thyroid issues, chronic fatigue issues, gut issues, basic dermatologic issues. For chronic issues, understand that this process may take time, several months, or longer to evaluate clinically and see if there is a regimen, like dietary and nutritional supplementation and pharmaceutical management, if needed, that may help resolve or improve your symptoms.
Having Hashimoto's and Lyme myself, I understand what it feels like having many providers that did not believe nor understand, or ignore symptoms that I had experienced for many years, being told "it was all in my head," "just stop eating as much and exercise more," and "your thyroid numbers are fine, therefore you are fine," on so many occasions. I have read and agree with many aspects of Stop the Thyroid Madness, Izabella Wentz, RPh, Mary Shomon, among others, who are not opposed to diet changes and certain food avoidances, natural dessicated thyroid, nutritional supplementation, and evaluating for things like Epstein Barr, Lyme, et cetera.
Also, please understand that how you feel now has taken months or years to get to the symptoms that you are currently experiencing. I am not opposed to looking into nutritional deficiencies, chronic viral issues, Lyme disease, chronic gut issues, minor hormone imbalances, adrenal fatigue, some autoimmune issues. I am not opposed to doing the labs to rule in or rule out possible causes for your chronic complaint. It may take several months to improve your current condition, and, even with workups, you may not improve, and still be referred to another provider for further evaluation and continued care.
I am not a functional medicine provider. I work with a family practice physician, Mitchell Whitehead, MD. Again, if I cannot find a solution that helps you feel better, find a condition that I am not comfortable with treating or warrants specialist workup, I will refer you to another provider. Any complex cases will be reviewed with my supervising physician, Mitchell Whitehead, MD.
Due to licensing, currently I am able to see patients only in FLORIDA.
